Harmony Fierke-Gmazel
Outreach Specialist, Urban & Regional Planning

Harmony is the lead at SBEI. Her role is to coordinate the planning and design process with MSU faculty, students and partner community representatives. She brings over 20 years of private, municipal and regional planning experience to SBEI, along with 8 years of experience teaching in the field for MSU Extension’s Land Use team and at MSU in Planning Law and Ethics. Her most notable plans throughout the years include the HUD-funded and charrette-based Grand River Avenue Corridor Plan; a multi-jurisdictional Greening Mid-Michigan plan, and the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Land and Reservation Committee Strategic Plan. She moderates the monthly MI Tribal Planner Network, teaches Zoning Administration and Citizen Planner and is a member of the Michigan Association of Planning’s Equity Committee and the American Planning Association Sustainable Planning Division.
Allison Balderston
Teaching Specialist, Landscape Architecture

Allison Balderston is a Teaching Specialist in the Landscape Architecture Program within the College of Planning, Design, and Construction at Michigan State University. Allison assists the team as head of the landscape architecture team; the landscape architects take the results of our community engagement and create the site plans. She brings nearly ten years of professional experience from planning and landscape architecture firms in Denver, Colorado, where she worked on a wide range of project types.
