What are Conservation Easements?

July 7, 2026

In this collaboration between MIFarmLink and Michigan State University Extension, we explore conservation land easements and how they help protect farmland for future generations.

We sat down with Rosie Pahl Donaldson, Land Acquisition Supervisor for the Ann Arbor Greenbelt Program, to learn more about how land preservation works in practice. The Greenbelt Program is an innovative effort that has protected thousands of acres of farmland and open space around Ann Arbor, using a combination of grants, landowner donations, and local funding. Whether you are a landowner, a beginning farmer, or simply interested in conservation, this video offers a helpful look at how easements can support long-term land access and stewardship.

This video was created with support from a SARE Partnership grant.
